The Cost of Wonder
Hey hi hello!
It’s my birthday this week, and this time of year always makes me reflect.
This has not been a banger year for me. Many of the days have been grayed out by loss and grief, so I won’t pretend that hasn’t been a part of the journey. But there has been sweetness and tenderness amidst this, from many of you and people around me and from myself. All year I have continued to return to this line from poet Ellen Renton, featured on the song “Inheritance” from Lord of the Isles: “All pain is small change in the cost of wonder.” At times I have felt very overwhelmed by the heartache of this year, but I have been buoyed up by the fact that that pain only exists when we care and love deeply.
Thank you so much for being here. It means the world to me that you take the time to read the newsletter and find enough value in it to stay and hear from me week after week. Thank you for having patience with me and letting me show up here in a real way.
